On July 29, the BYD Seal was officially launched, and four models were released, priced from RMB 209,800 to RMB 286,800. Since the pre-sale started on May 20, the order volume of seals has exceeded 60,000. The new car will be produced at Seal’s exclusive factory in Changzhou, and deliveries will begin this month (August). The seal is the first e-platform 3.0 model equipped with BYD’s CTB battery-body integration technology.
In terms of appearance, the seal’s sharp front, and the new car’s headlights adopt a double U suspension design, creating a more low-slung wide-body effect.
The body of the seal is very sporty. In terms of body size, the length, width, and height of the new car are 4800mmX1875mmX1460mm, and the wheelbase is 2920mm. In terms of body color, the new car will be available in eight body color options: Arctic Blue, Aurora White, Xuankong Black, Atlantis Gray (and matte version), Sea Lens Blue, Wind Curly Green, and Rosemary Gray.
The rear light group of the new car adopts the “Sea Line” through-type water drop tail light, and the design inspiration comes from water droplets, which are highly recognizable.
The instrument panel trim, sub-instrument panel, and steering wheel in the car adopt laser radium engraving technology and are decorated with diamond quilting and double stitching technology, which further enhances the overall high-quality and delicate sense of the interior.
In terms of safety, the “blade battery” adopted by SEAL is integrated into the car body with a structure similar to a honeycomb aluminum plate. In terms of the rigidity of the cabin floor, SEAL’s CTB technology has been improved by 13 times. In addition, SEAL’s full-frame subframe also helps to disperse stress, and its special crush structure design can absorb collision energy more efficiently and better protect the safety of occupants in the vehicle.
In terms of power performance, the maximum output power of the electric motor of the 550km standard range rear-drive version of the BYD Seal is 150kW and the maximum torque is 310Nm; the maximum output power of the electric motor of the 700km long range rear-drive version is 230kW and the maximum torque is 360Nm.
It is worth mentioning that the SEAL 650km four-wheel drive performance version is equipped with a three-in-one electric drive powertrain of an AC asynchronous motor, with a maximum total power of 390kW and a maximum total torque of 670Nm. The high-efficiency advantage of the asynchronous motor in high-speed conditions also makes the car 0-100km/h acceleration time of 3.8 seconds.
Judging from the price range of 209,800 to 286,800 yuan for the seals, it is possible that the Xpeng P7, which is on sale, will directly grab the market. It is reported that the seal will also enter BYD to enter the Japanese market. On July 21, BYD announced its official entry into the Japanese passenger car market. The Yuan PLUS, Dolphin, and Seal models are expected to go on sale in 2023.
According to the current development speed of BYD, sales in 2022 are expected to exceed 1.7 million units, and even reach the terrifying figure of 2 million units.
